Hi! I’m Mrs. Healy, aka Aztec Steph. In March of 2020, my life took a turn I never expected. Like millions of people around the world, I found myself in the midst of a pandemic and sheltering with my small family.
We watched our daughter and her classmates, indeed entire school systems, struggle as the months turned into another school calendar year of remote and hybrid learning. Remote learning was mandatory, and not easy for a student who thrived in a classroom setting. I began to focus more on these struggles, and decided to dive head-on into my dream of teaching English as a second language.
In addition to being a certified Master TEFL Instructor, I also hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology, with concentrations in Mesoamerican Prehistory and English/Linguistics. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated with world culture, and college for me was a way to travel the world through the lens of the classroom. I found my URI professors to be passionate and inspirational, and I immersed myself in a curriculum loaded with courses on Mexican and Central and South American cultures and the Maya and Inca civilizations. I worked hard, all the while dreaming of the day I would be able to visit the places I learned about. Those adventures began in June of 1995 with my first visit to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, and the island of Cozumel.
